Proposal

I am interested in photographing modern fashion that is truly modern and authentic. I have seen fashion in magazines like i-D and GQ; however I don't feel that it is true. Most of it looked like designer clothing or catwalk clothing that not many people would be able to afford so I would like to look at the affordable fashion trends that have developed in the everyday society. Therefore I feel that maybe I could make a magazine/book similar in design but for the everyday.

I will work on producing portraits and full body images using different cameras for both styles. I have seen work from Terry Richardson and it actually looks like he uses a compact camera so maybe I could try that and use film for any black and white images that I would like to experiment with. Hopefully the colour images will compliment the black and white images if I can make the contrast really harsh. I am tempted to use medium format film for the image quality however I may need to use 35mm for the quantity of images I want to take.

I feel that the only problem I may have is finding the models. I may ask friends and colleagues to participate as well as using social networking websites to ask other people that I may not have considered before.

I think the only technical skill that I would need is how to develop film; however I have been developing film for a short time now so I am fairly confident with it.

I currently have access to most of the equipment I need. The only other thing I think I might need is some location lighting for use with the film cameras. I will be able to get this from my technician, however he has a first come first serve approach so I would have to be quick.

Considering that I need to create a book I feel like I need to research some book manufacturers/websites for prices and display methods to decide which one is best for me. I also need to research fashion and portrait practitioners to gather lighting and positioning ideas.

My plan is to manage my posts with half a post, a full one or a photo shoot everyday which will eventually get to all the pages I need and the images in time to send off for the book/magazine and receive it back.
